Regional Economic
Development Priorities
The No
Boundaries report identifies the following priorities that can
provide the most significant impact on the growth and development of our
region's economy:
 | Incorporate advanced manufacturing in all business sectors that
can adopt it. |
 | Expand research and development by focusing on the motor sports
and optoelectronics industries. |
 | Improve the region’s workforce preparedness through programs
in literacy and basic skills development. |
 | Develop a culture that promotes and encourages entrepreneurship. |
 | Promote the region’s tourism assets through a well-funded
cooperative effort. |
 | Enhance the distribution network for the region and investigate
the feasibility of a multi-modal site at the Charlotte Douglas
International Airport. |
 | Develop a regional grants
team. |

Regional economic
development is a broad goal that requires the input and expertise of a
wide range of public and private organizations. Participants in the
implementation of the regional priorities include: City and County
Governments, Economic Development Organizations, Chambers of
Commerce, Workforce Development Boards, Schools, Community Colleges,
Colleges and Universities, Convention and Visitor's Bureaus, Literacy
Councils, and many others
.
One function of the
Centralina Economic Development Commission is to coordinate and facilitate
the activities of these many organizations through networking
opportunities to ensure the maximum economic impact from our diverse
regional efforts.
The CEDC also coordinates the regional Economic
Development District designation process. This designation
makes the Centralina region eligible for federal economic
development funding opportunities. For more information on the
EDD program, visit the US Department of Commerce Economic
Development Administration.
