Commercial Real Estate Loan Officer for Self-Help Credit Union
participated in a panel discussion covering the topic of
adaptive re-use. The Standard Building in Gastonia was the

Downtown
Goldsboro Development Corporation Presentation
Julie Thompson,
the executive director of the Downtown Goldsboro Development
Corporation gave a detailed account of the history of Goldsboro
and the long list of events that brought economic turmoil to
this city and how that in turn left much of the city to dwindle
away. Ms. Thompson outlines all the issues the city had
and how they have come to be able to preserve and redevelop this
beautiful historical American town. For more information

Patti Glazer of
Glazer Architecture presented a look a the redevelopment process
of downtown Asheville, She highlighted the types of
available building codes for redevelopment and the problem
solving techniques her company used to convert old buildings for

Eileen Joyce,
Lead Business Development Specialist for the SBA in the Charlotte
region briefed us on the types of loan programs, counseling
services, and financing options the SBA can assist small business
with. She also gave a handout listing of SBA lenders in the

George Sherrill presented the programs CFC has
available, whom they are applicable for and in what is available in
your region.

Gloria Nance-Sims the Director of the DCA Community
Assistance Division; presented information on the DCA's Small Cities
CDBG Program, Community Planning Program and Urban Development.

Bob Sasser the Director of Planning and Community
Development for the City of Albemarle, gave a presentation on the
city's redevelopment project the Lillian Mill; he gives a
description of all the different state resources used to support the
success of the project.

Bill McNeil NC Rural Center. His
presentation covered Building Reuse & Restoration, Small Town
Economic Prosperity Grants, Economic Stimulus Grants, Water & Sewer
Grants, Community Innovation Grants and Financing options.
Erskine Smith Assistant Town Manager for the Town of
Mooresville. Smith explains how this town has utilized all the
different types of programs made available through state and federal
programs to begin to revitalize their beautiful community.
